The Mallnow slopes are a 304- hectare nature reserve north of the city of Lebus in the Märkisch-Oderland district in Brandenburg . It is named after the neighboring district of Mallnow .
History and location
The last Vistula Ice Age formed a landscape of heights and valleys, which are characterized by the Lebuser Platte . This is a ground moraine plateau with a height difference of up to 50 meters that slopes down towards the Oder . The area north of Mallnow was placed under nature protection as early as 1921. During the Second World War it suffered considerable devastation as a result of the fighting during the advance of the Red Army , but was subsequently able to recover. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , the Naturschutzbund Deutschland took over the first 46.2 hectares from the BVVG in 2005 . Five years later, 84 hectares of meadows, pastures and arable land were added, which the BVVG transferred free of charge to the NABU Foundation for National Natural Heritage and leased it to farmers. They were required to cultivate areas with rare wild herbs such as black cumin in accordance with nature conservation guidelines. The current area was completed with the transfer of a further 21.79 hectares of dry grassland. The nature reserve is part of Natura 2000 , the coherent , Europe-wide network of protected areas in accordance with the provisions of Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive, Habitat Directive for short).
flora
The region is climatically part of the East Brandenburg dry area and thus favors the settlement of plants from the East European steppe area. The nature reserve is especially known for the Adonisröschen , whose bloom in spring is a tourist attraction: During this time, ODEG trains stop at the otherwise closed Schönfließ station . In addition, the Siberian bellflower , the hair awl grass , the horn orchid , the deer root hair strand and the purple salsify grow . The forest areas are in free succession . Pine , birch and robinia grow here, and occasionally oak , alder and ash in alluvial forests .
fauna
In the slopes of the Oder in Mallnow the otter , the gray bunting , the turning neck and the hoopoe have been identified. The great fire butterfly also settles there . The dry grasslands are cultivated by grazing sheep .
