Ohio State Treasurer
The Ohio State Treasurer is one of the constitutional offices of the State of Ohio . The State Treasurer's responsibilities include collecting and securing taxpayers' money and fees, and managing government investments.
The Treasury was in the Ohio Statehouse from 1861 to 1974 when it was moved to the Rhodes State Office Tower . The original agency premises in the Ohio Statehouse have been restored to their original state in the 19th century and are now used for ceremonial purposes.
Before Ohio became a state , John Armstron served as Treasurer-General of the Northwest Territory from 1796 to 1803 . His appointment was made by the US Congress . Under the First Ohio Constitution, the State Treasurer of Ohio was appointed by the State Legislature between 1803 and 1851. As a result of the Second Ohio Constitution, the State Treasurer of Ohio has been elected to office by the people of Ohio since 1852.
