According to the official report, 97 gymnasts from twelve countries took part in the individual all-around competition; possibly 115 gymnasts. Was gymnastics to five devices ( Reck , bars , solid rings , flying rings and pommel horse ), having been distinguished on the horizontal bar between swing exercises and static exercises. A two-minute freestyle exercise had to be shown on these devices, which were judged by three judges, who could award up to 24 points. In addition there was the rope swing , where there was half a point for every 18 inches (45.72 cm) climbed.

The team all-around competition consisted of a 30-minute group exercise with and without gymnastics equipment. There were eight teams with a total of 254 gymnasts at the start. A team had to consist of at least 16 and a maximum of 40 gymnasts. Each of the three judges awarded up to 160 points (40 for appearance, 60 for execution and 60 for difficulty). For the evaluation, style, difficulty, versatility and overall impression were taken into account.
