Games

In the preliminary round, after two wins against Brazil and Iran in the last game against defending champions Hungary, it was all about the group victory that the Hungarians achieved. In the second round they started with a draw against the eventual Olympic champion Poland, which was followed by a win against Morocco. As a result, the last game against the Soviet Union was about second place in the group, which entitles them to play for third place. After a clear defeat, the group finished third and was eliminated from the tournament.
