The Ortenberg ( 995.9 m above sea level ) is an elevation in the southwestern Swabian Alb . It is located on the southern edge of the Upper Schischem valley near Deilingen in the Tuttlingen district and belongs to the Großer Heuberg .
Nature reserve
A former quarry on the north side of the Ortenberg has been designated as a geotope and nature reserve since February 23, 2001 . The NSG has the protected area number 3,258 and is 71.6 hectares in size. Its abandoned wall opens up about 40 m of the lower white Jura . A slope section representative of the eaves area of the Hohe Schwabenalb is protected with marl slides, rock formations, relict plant communities and valuable forest communities, which are used as a habitat for a large number of rare, predominantly alpine, z. T. strongly endangered plant species, as well as rare animal species serve.
