Otto Piltz
Otto Piltz (born June 28, 1846 in Allstedt , † August 20, 1910 in Pasing ) was a German painter.
education
After an apprenticeship as a decorative painter in Halle (Saale) from 1866 to 1871, he studied painting at the art school in Weimar , specializing in genre painting with Paul Thumann , Bernhard Plockhorst and Charles Verlat .
life and work
In the 1870s he worked repeatedly in the artist colonies of Kleinsassen and Willingshausen . He lived in Weimar until 1886, in Berlin until 1889 and then in Pasing until his death.
He painted village and urban scenes, people at school, in training, at work, going to church and at parties. His strength was the lively portrayal of children, which Adolph Menzel particularly praised in a letter to him about the picture “The custody school in Weimar”. He found his motifs in Thuringia ( Oberweimar , Sömmerda ), Hesse ( Cappel near Marburg ), Berlin , Spreewald , Bavaria ( Würzburg , Walderbach , Pasing , Dachau , Markt Indersdorf ), Tyrol ( Rattenberg ) and in Volendam in Holland, depicting the Costumes that were still worn in his day were important to him.
Otto Piltz can be assigned to the genre painting and realism of the 19th century , impressionists like Max Liebermann , who studied at the same time in Weimar, influence him.
He was friends with the young Franz Marc , and at the beginning of the 20th century they occasionally went on joint painting trips to the Dachau Moos .
His brother-in-law was the painter Wilhelm Georg Ritter , and one son-in-law was the architect Wilhelm Büning .

Exhibitions and awards
In 1882 he was appointed professor by Carl Alexander , Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Gotha, a teaching post was not associated with it.
He exhibited at the annual art exhibitions in Berlin and Munich ( Glaspalast ). At the Paris World Exhibition in 1878 he was represented with the picture “Gymnastics Lessons in the Country”. At the International Exhibition 1884 in London he received a medal, "Honorable Mention" at the anniversary exhibition in 1886 and the annual exhibition in Berlin in 1889 and in 1904 the "Golden State Medal" of the Salzburg Art Association .
In 1893 he joined the Munich Secession , but also continued to exhibit in the artists' cooperative and the art association .
