Overall, the album received generally positive reviews. In the overall rating of Metacritic , the album received 76 out of 100 points. John Bush, from Allmusic , awarded the album 4.5 out of 5 stars, whereas the album by Anthony Bozza, from Rolling Stone , only got three out of five stars. Entertainment Weekly's Jon Caramanica gave the album an A- and wrote: "Snoop is born again, a grandfather in recession".

In the US Billboard 200 , the album reached number 12 in the US charts. With over a million copies sold, the album also went platinum in the United States . The album reached position 64 in the British album charts. In Germany and Switzerland, the album reached positions 46 and 48 on the album charts, respectively. The album reached number 27 in the Danish and New Zealand charts. In France, the album debuted at number 17 on the album charts and stayed there for another 23 weeks.
