Palmbach is a district of the Baden-Württemberg city of Karlsruhe . Palmbach is located on the south-eastern edge of the urban area and was incorporated into the city of Karlsruhe on January 1, 1975.

Palmbach naturally belongs to the northern Black Forest . It is located directly at the Karlsbad motorway exit of the A8 and is one of the Karlsruhe high-altitude districts.

history

Palmbach was founded in 1701 by 28 Waldensian refugee families on 360 acres of the Grünwettersbach district and was initially named La Balme , just like the Waldensian hometown. In 1725 the place name "Palmbach" appears for the first time in the marriage register. In the same year the first small church was built in the village. At the same time, 12 families moved to Prussia, leaving behind 96 residents.

The Waldensians largely isolated themselves from the Grünwettersbachers, but maintained close contact with the Waldensian settlements in Untermutschelbach and Schöneberg near Mühlacker . Through the exchange and epuration contract of 1806, the place became Baden. German was introduced as the official language in schools and churches.

In the 19th century, many of the farmers used the industrialized businesses in the area to secure their livelihoods. Between 1830 and 1870, 84 of the 300 residents emigrated to North America.

On January 1, 1972, Palmbach merged with Grünwettersbach to form the municipality of Wettersbach , in order to jointly prevent the incorporation into Karlsruhe, which only succeeded until January 1, 1975. The place got its former place name back when it was incorporated into Karlsruhe and today has around 1850 inhabitants.

Attractions

In the summer of 2014, the Badisches Schulmuseum Karlsruhe moved into the former Waldensian school. The Waldensian trail with the Waldensian monument "Gate of Arrival" was inaugurated in 2015. It was designed by the artists Barbara Jäger and OMI Riesterer and found its place on the new Waldenserplatz. Along the Waldensian Path, 24 display boards in 12 places tell the story of the historical sites and buildings of Palmbach (such as the Waldensian Church ), as well as the history of the Waldensians.

Transportation

Palmbach is connected to the network of the Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (KVV). At rush hour there is a bus connection with line 47 every 10 minutes to the Zündhütle (tram stop) or to the main train station . Palmbach is growing through new commercial and residential areas. At the entrance to Palmbach, a new industrial area with Rudolf-Link-Straße is being built in Gewann Winterrot. This can be built on since March 2008. It is located next to the existing An der Ochsenstrasse industrial park .

New residential areas are also emerging on the southern edge of Palmbach. The first construction phase has been on the Ob den Garten construction area since mid-May 2009 . 85 single, semi-detached and terraced houses with around 120 residential units will be built on the 5.5 hectare planning area.
