The Karlsruhe Weststadt is a district of Karlsruhe . It is located between the city center and the older district of Mühlburg , on both sides of Kaiserallee.
The area to the south of it was a Wilhelminian-era industrial area; the first gas works and the beer cellars of the Karlsruhe breweries were located here , which then also relocated their increasingly industrial production facilities here. The dense residential development in Art Nouveau that was added after that has shaped this area to this day after the industry moved away.
From the beginning, the northern part was an administrative and residential area and has remained so to this day. The distinctive beginning of the Mühlburger-Tor-Platz is the town hall west . a. the General State Archives in Karlsruhe , the Higher Regional Court , the penal institution (designed by Josef Durm in 1897 in the manner of an Italian palazzo with regard to the surroundings ) and the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe .
The northern part is traversed by the Hildapromenade , the route of the original Maxau Railway , after its relocation used as a green area, named after the last Grand Duchess Hilda of Nassau .
The Hardtwaldsiedlung from the 1920s was transferred to the Nordstadt in 1995 .
The coat of arms shows the Krautkopfbrunnen on Gutenbergplatz , where a weekly market takes place three times a week . The Lessing-Gymnasium and the Gutenbergschule (elementary and secondary school) are located directly on Gutenbergplatz.
Culture
In the old gasworks, which is now called the Factory Theater , are the Sandkorn Theater , the marotte puppet theater and the Jakobus Theater .
