The region around the tip of the Adula is one of the largest areas in Switzerland without significant human interference. There are incomparable geological scenarios and a rich fauna and alpine flora. The Parc Adula was a multilingual and culturally diverse project that included Rhaeto-Romanic , German and Italian-speaking, and Walser German communities.

The 17 planned park communities represent 14,000 inhabitants and three languages: Acquarossa , Calanca , Blenio , Buseno , Disentis / Mustér , Hinterrhein , Medel (Lucmagn) , Mesocco , Nufenen , Rossa , Serravalle , Soazza , Splügen , Sumvitg , Trun , Vals and Vrin . The municipality of Blenio would have been given more weight in the general assembly because of its large share in the core zone of the park.

The aim of Parc Adula was to preserve and enhance the valuable natural heritage. Of particular interest were:

  • The Greina plateau : a tundra landscape at an altitude of around 2000 meters above sea level.
  • The source of the Rhine . The two most important sources are in the Parc Adula region : The Vorderrhein rises north of the adjacent Tomasee ; the Hinterrhein east of the Rheinwaldhorn . Several other tributaries such as Rein del Medel, Rein da Platta, Rein da Sumvitg, Rein da Cristallina, Rein da Vigliuts, Glenner , Valser Rhein and Areuabach have their origins in the area of the planned park.
  • The Trescolmen Nature Reserve . Between Misox and Calanca the reserve Trescolmen includes the Piz Trescolmen, the pinnacle Bedoleta and Piz Pian Grand. The majority of the nature reserve consists of Alps and rocks. In the east and west are small forest areas. The Trescolmen Reserve is home to many wildlife and bird habitats; among them are rare bird species such as eagles, hawks, sparrowhawks, kestrels, eagle owls, black grouse, ptarmigan and quail.
