Career
Patrick Kaleta began his career at St. Francis High School in Athol Springs before being selected by the Peterborough Petes during the 2002 OHL Priority Selection Draft and playing for that team in the years that followed. During the NHL Entry Draft 2004 he was selected by the Buffalo Sabers in the sixth round in a total of 176th place. In the 2005/06 season he reached the Final Four tournament for the Memorial Cup with Peterborough , where his team, however, only finished fourth. In four OHL seasons for the Petes he scored 147 points and 460 penalty minutes.
In June 2006 Kaleta signed his first professional contract with the Buffalo Sabers and initially played for their farm team , the Rochester Americans , in the American Hockey League . On February 21, 2007 he was appointed to the NHL cadre of the Sabers for the first time and played his first NHL game on February 22. In that game against the Ottawa Senators , he made his first assist and saw his first fight on the ice against Chris Phillips . He scored his first NHL goal on February 10, 2008 against the Florida Panthers .
Since the beginning of the 2008/09 season , he has been a permanent member of the Sabers NHL squad. Kaleta is not so much a strong or accurate player type, but rather an agitator who is supposed to disrupt the flow of the opponent through body checks and hard play.
In the 2013/14 season he was sent to the Rochester Americans in the AHL for the first time in a long time via the waiver . After the 2014/15 season, Kaleta did not receive a new contract from the Sabers, so he signed a pure AHL contract with the Rochester Americans. In November 2016, he finally announced the end of his active career.
