Patrizia Ciofi
Patrizia Ciofi (born June 7, 1967 in Casole d'Elsa ) is an Italian lyric coloratura soprano . The focus of her repertoire ranges from the late baroque ( Vivaldi , Handel ) to Mozart's operas and Italian bel canto by Donizetti , Bellini , Rossini and Verdi . The voice of Ciofi has an individual, unmistakable timbre that is a bit dark in color for a soprano at this altitude and sounds slightly veiled.
biography
Patrizia Ciofi studied with Anastasia Tomasewska-Schepis at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and at the Istituto Musicale Pietro Mascagni in Livorno . She also attended master classes with Shirley Verrett , Carlo Bergonzi , Alberto Zedda , and Giorgio Gualerzi. She is the winner of various competitions.
She made her debut in Gino Negri's Giovanni Sebastiano at the Teatro Comunale in Florence. This was followed by appearances as Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni on various Italian and foreign theaters, and from 1991 to 1993 an engagement at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa in various Verdi operas.
In 1996 Patrizia Ciofi sang her star role of Lucia for the first time in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor in Savona , which she recorded in 1998 in the original French version for Dynamics, with international success. She made her debut at La Scala in 1997 as Violetta in La traviata under Riccardo Muti ; at the same house she also appeared in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore (1997 and 2001).
Since then, the Ciofi has sung at most of the opera houses in Italy, at the Maggio Musicale in Florence, at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro and at the Festival of Martina Franca. She has appeared on many international stages, such as the Opéra Bastille in Paris, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, in Berlin, Amsterdam, Bilbao, Madrid and Chicago (2003). Ciofi's debut at the Vienna State Opera did not come until 2008, as Amina in Vincenzo Bellini's La sonnambula .
Ciofi's brilliant roles include Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor in the original Italian and French versions (from 1839), Adina in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore and Norina in Don Pasquale , Marie in La fille du régiment , and the title roles in Maria Stuarda and Pia de 'Tolomei ; also the leading roles in operas by Bellini (Amina in La sonnambula, Giulietta in I Capuleti ei Montecchi , La straniera , Elvira in I puritani ), by Rossini (Amenaide in Tancredi , Desdemona in Otello , the title role in Zelmira ), by Verdi (Violetta in La traviata , Gilda in Rigoletto ) and Mozart (Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro Le di , Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Elettra in Idomeneo ). She also sang in operas by Puccini (Mimi in La Bohème ) and Massenet ( Manon ).
In December 2012 she stepped in for Jennifer Rowley at short notice as Isabelle in Giacomo Meyerbeer's rarely performed opera Robert le diable at the Royal Opera House, London.
In October and November 2017, Patrizia Ciofi sang the title role in Bellini's Norma at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège .
Ciofi has made many CD recordings, including some rare works by Vivaldi, Domenico Scarlatti , Handel, Traetta , Piccinni , Donizetti, Bellini, Meyerbeer and others. a. standing out.
