Romina Basso (born in Gorizia ) is an Italian mezzo-soprano who specializes in baroque music .

life and work

Basso studied singing at the Conservatorio B. Marcello in Venice and Italian literature at the University of Trieste . She completed master classes with Peter Maag , Regina Resnik , Rockwell Blake , Claudio Desderi , Elio Battaglia and Claudio Strudthoff .

After several successful competitions, it quickly established itself on the important concert stages in Europe, such as the Wiener Konzerthaus , the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and the Palais des Beaux-Arts , both in Bruxelles, the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux , the Munich Philharmonie am Gasteig , the Glyndebourne Festival , the Edinburgh Festival and the Barbican Center in London, the Palau de la Música in Valencia, the Santiago de Compostela Baroque Festival and the Utrecht Early Music Festival . Her baroque focus is on Claudio Monteverdi ( L'Orfeo and La Vergine dei Dolori ), Antonio Vivaldi ( Bajazet , Motezuma and Orlando furioso ), as well as on Georg Friedrich Handel . The artist has worked for many years in concert opera performances with the Theater an der Wien , where she made her debut in 2009 as Adrasto in Vivaldi's Armada al campo d'Egitto . In Handel cycle of the Theater an der Wien she sang the 2010 Alessandro in Tolomeo, re d'Egitto , 2011, Cornelia in Giulio Cesare in Egitto , 2013, the Tauride in Arianna in Creta and 2014 Trasimede in Admeto, re di Tessaglia always with the Complesso barocco under Alan Curtis .
