Paul Ritter (actor)
Paul Ritter (* 20th December 1966 as Simon Paul Adams in Gravesend , County Kent , England ; † 5. April 2021 in Faversham , Kent, England) was a British theater and film actor .
Life
Simon Paul Adams was born in 1966 in Gravesend, southern England, the fifth child of toolmaker Ken Adams and school secretary Joan Adams (born Mooney). He had four older sisters. He attended Gravesend Grammar School and later St John's College, Cambridge.
After graduating, he went to the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg for a year . On his return to Great Britain he took on the stage name Paul Ritter , as another Simon Adams was already registered with the artists' union Equity .
He began his career in the early 1990s with minor appearances in television productions. This was later followed by roles in films such as The Son of Rambow , Hannibal Rising - How It All Began , James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace , Nowhere Boy , Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and The Eagle of the Ninth Legion . His work for film and television includes more than 70 productions.
Ritter has appeared in theaters in London, Stratford-upon-Avon and also in New York. Since 1996 he has appeared in several productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company .
He was particularly popular in the role of Martin Goodman in the comedy series Friday Night Dinner (2011-2020). In the miniseries Chernobyl in 2019 he portrayed Anatoli Djatlow , the deputy chief engineer of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant . One of his last roles was in the TV series The Trial of Christine Keeler in 2020 as Keeler's lawyer Jeremy Hutchinson .
He lived in Faversham . His marriage to Polly Radcliffe in 1996 resulted in two sons. Ritter died in April 2021 at the age of 54 in his hometown with his family of complications from a brain tumor .
