Pekin is a city in the middle of the American state of Illinois . Pekin is in Tazewell County and is its administrative seat . A small part of the urban area is in Peoria County. The nearest major city is Peoria , 15 km away. As of 2000, Pekin had almost 34,000 inhabitants.

The residents of Beijing were distributed to 13,380 households out of which 27% had children under the age of 18. 44.1% of households were married, 13.8% had a female head of the household without a husband and 36.9% were not families. 31.6% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 18.5% of all households aged 65 years or older.
