Peter Werner (director)
Peter Werner (born January 17, 1947 in New York City , New York ) is an American film and television director .
Life
Peter Werner was in his early years teacher and documentary filmmaker , and has a degree in both areas. After a year as VISTA -Freiwilliger in downtown Detroit , he was co-founder of the High School of Deerfield in Massachusetts . While teaching in Vermont , he met Frances Flaherty , wife of the great "father of documentaries" Robert J. Flaherty . She became his girlfriend and mentor, and allowed Werner to shoot a documentary portrait of her that was broadcast on PBS . This was the first project where Werner's brother Tom appeared as a producer.
In 1977 his film In the Region of Ice, produced together with Andre R. Guttfreund , was awarded an Oscar in the category “Best Short Film” . Since then he has directed documentaries as well as television films and episodic television series such as Ghost Whisperer - Voices from Beyond , Medium - Nothing Remains Hidden , Criminal Intent - Crime in Sight , College Fever , Wonderful Years and The Model and the Snoop .
Peter Werner is married and has three children. He is a board member of his son's school and the American Film Institute . In addition to teaching, he has also given lectures. Werner has been a practicing Buddhist for thirty years .

Awards
Werner was nominated for several Emmy and DGA awards . He won a CableACE Award for his HBO film Character Assassination . In 1977 he won an Oscar in the Best Short Film category for In the Region of Ice .
