Franz Leopold Gottfried Peter von Mutius (born December 7, 1828 in Posen , † July 10, 1904 in Landeck ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Peter was a son of the Prussian cavalry general Louis von Mutius (1796–1866) and his wife Marie, née von Röder (1801–1872). His youngest brother Wilhelm (1832–1918) advanced to the position of Prussian lieutenant general .

Military career

Mutius visited the cadet houses in Wahlstatt and Berlin . Subsequently, on May 27, 1845, he was transferred as an aggregated second lieutenant to the Guard Jäger Battalion of the Prussian Army and was assigned in mid-April 1847. For further training he completed the General War School for three years from October 1852 , was in the meantime transferred to the Guard Rifle Battalion and rose to captain by mid-September 1857 . From October 1857 to July 1858 he was in the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment and in August / September 1858 as a company commander in the 1st Battalion in the 3rd Guards Landwehr Regiment in Görlitz . In mid-October he was appointed chief of the 1st company. During the mobilization on the occasion of the German War , Mutius was briefly commanded as leader of the 1st Battalion in the 2nd Guards Grenadier Landwehr Regiment to Hamm . Under promotion to surplus Major his transfer takes place on 23 May 1866 in the 7th Westphalian Infantry Regiment. 56 , with himself as leader of the Fusilier Battalion of the battles of Miinchengratz and Hradec Kralove involved. After the peace treaty he was assigned to the regiment in mid-September 1866 and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class with swords , for his work .

At the end of March 1868, Mutius became commander of the fusilier battalion, which he led as a lieutenant colonel in the war against France at Vionville , Gravelotte , Noisseville , Le Mans and before Metz . In the meantime he was leader of the East Frisian Infantry Regiment No. 78 from October 22 to December 31, 1870 . Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, he was appointed commander of the 2nd Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 15 (Prince Friedrich of the Netherlands) after the Treaty of Frankfurt on November 2, 1871 and promoted to colonel in mid-January 1872 . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was commissioned on December 12, 1876, initially to lead the 18th Infantry Brigade in Glogau, and on January 2, 1877, he was appointed major general commander of this large unit . In approval of his leave request Mutius was on May 13, 1879 Presentation of the Red Eagle II. Class with oak leaves and swords on rings with board for disposition made.

Mutius married Johanna Mathes (1851-1921) in Amsterdam on January 25, 1872 . The eight children Franz (1872–1875), Paul Franz (* 1874), Maximilian (1875–1915), Louis (1877–1914), Paul (* 1878), Adele (* 1879), Erhard (* 1881), Annemarie (* 1885) and Wilhelm (* 1886).
