The Ettendorfer Kircherl in Traunstein, destination of the Traunsteiner Georgiritt

Georgiritt is the name for horse pilgrimages in honor of St. George , which mostly go back to centuries-old traditions. They take place every year in different places, especially in Bavaria (especially southeast Upper Bavaria) and in Austria.

Georgi rides often take place around St. George's Remembrance Day (on April 23 ), especially at churches or chapels consecrated to St. George. Festively decorated horses and wagons pull to the place of worship, which is often (several times) disputed. Usually a service is celebrated and the horses and riders are blessed . This is often followed by skill competitions (such as the Kranzlstechen) or historical performances (such as sword dances).
