Pothole Rodeo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pothole Rodeo , in German "pothole rodeo", is an annual low-budget rally that takes place over eight days across the Balkans. The specialty lies in the regulations of the vehicles. These must be at least 20 years old and must not have cost more than 500 euros to purchase . Speed does n't matter in this type of rally . The main thing is to get through together. The often poor road conditions and the large number of potholes on the south-east European roads increase the challenge. The event is organized and carried out by the BackRoadClub

rally

The rally starts every year in the second week of July in Graz , the state capital of Styria . The first event in 2014 ran over seven day stages. In 2015, 2016 and 2017 there were eight daily stages. Each stage begins with an organized checkpoint and a driver briefing. Between the stages there are voluntary route recommendations that lead over particularly adventurous roads or places. The daily tasks are also voluntary. The purpose of these is to get to know the country and its people better and to collect points. The team with the highest score wins. Competitive measurement of power and / or speed as well as all motorsport tasks are not part of this event.

In 2014, the first rally started with ten teams on the Citypark parking deck in Graz. In 2015 the event was extended to eight days and counted 35 teams, in 2016 45 teams started. In 2017, 105 teams took part in the rally. In 2018, 250 teams took part in the rally. In 2019, 320 teams took part in the rally.

In 2017, a team donated an amount collected through ticket sales to the Feldbacher Lebenshilfe NetzWerk.
