Patrick Dewaere Prize
The Patrick Dewaere Prize ( Prix Patrick Dewaere ) is the most important award for young actors in the French film industry .
The prize is awarded every year in Paris , together with the Romy Schneider Prize , to a promising young male actor. The award is named after the French actor Patrick Dewaere (1947–1982) and goes back to the Jean Gabin Prize ( Prix Jean Gabin ) awarded from 1981 to 2006 , which was created by the journalists Marlène and Eugène Moineau . The idea originally came from Louis de Funès , who wanted to honor his late fellow actor Jean Gabin (1904–1976). After a legal battle with the Moncorgé family, the bereaved relatives of the actor and previous namesake, the award was renamed by the organizers in 2008. The winner will be determined by a jury made up of female film and theater journalists.
Award winners
In 1992 Vincent Perez was the first non-French to join the list of winners. The youngest winner in 1996 was the 24-year-old Frenchman Guillaume Depardieu . As the oldest winner at the age of 59, Johnny Hallyday received the award in 2003 for his performance in the drama The Second Life of Monsieur Manesquier .
At the 2018 awards ceremony, 32-year-old Argentinean Nahuel Pérez Biscayart was the first non-European to win the award for his achievements in the two previous films , Au revoir là-haut and 120 BPM .
