history

The name Pucioasa appears for the first time in 1649; from 1759 it can be assigned to a locality. The (today no longer official) district Șerbăneşti was mentioned as early as 1538. The later development of the until then agricultural place was largely influenced by the mineral springs containing sulfur and iodine, which were discovered in 1828 and which soon made Pucioasa a lively spa. In 1910 the municipality of Pucioasa was established, which was declared a city in 1929. After the Second World War, the cityscape changed due to the settlement of industry, the construction of new building blocks and the demolition of traditional farmhouses. In 1940, 1970 and 1975 there were landslides on the slopes above the city, which made fortifications necessary in 1975.

Today (2008) the spa complex is designed for the treatment of 500 spa guests. Besides tourism, the most important branches of the economy are the chemical, textile, food and wood processing industries.
