Puerto Escondido is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cordoba in Colombia .

Puerto Escondido is located in the north of Córdoba , 60 km from Montería on the Caribbean and has an average annual temperature of 28 ° C. The municipality borders the Caribbean and the municipalities of Moñitos and Santa Cruz de Lorica to the north, San Pelayo to the east, Montería and Los Córdobas to the south and the Caribbean to the west.

history

Puerto Escondido was founded in 1854 by settlers from the Barú peninsula on the site of today's Puerto Escondido Viejo . As the number of residents increased, the settlement was moved to its current location. The place received the status of a corregimientos in 1923 and in 1961 the status of a municipality.

economy

The main industries in Puerto Escondido are cattle production and traditional agriculture . Trade , fishing and tourism also play a role.
