Re'eh ( Biblical Hebrew רְאֵה ,Please refer!' ) is a reading section of the Torah with the text Deuteronomy / Dewarim 11.26–16.17 (11.26–32 BHS ; 12 BHS ; 13 BHS ; 14 BHS ; 15 BHS ; 16.1–17 BHS ).

It is the reading of the 4th or 5th Sabbath in the month of Av .

Essential content

The text begins with a transition to Moses' speech. It is about the blessing for the fulfillment of the commandments and the corresponding curse and two mountains, Garizim and Ebal, on which the curse and the blessing are to be proclaimed separately.

This is followed by the beginning of the collection of laws in Deuteronomy. The foreign places of worship in Palestine are to be destroyed. In the land of Canaan , sacrifices are only permitted in the one place designated by God.

Rules for slaughter and sacrifices and other regulations are issued. The sabbatical year and the three pilgrimage festivals (Schalosch regalim) are prescribed.

Haftara

The associated Haftara is Isa 54.11–55.5 (54.11–17 BHS ; 55.1–5 BHS ).
