Reichenbach ( Rychbach in Lower Sorbian ) is a residential area in the town of Guben in the Spree-Neisse district in the east of Brandenburg . Reichenbach was an independent municipality until July 1, 1950.

location

Reichenbach is located in Niederlausitz , about two kilometers west of the border with Poland as the crow flies . Surrounding villages are Gros Breesen in the north, the Polish part of the city Guben in the East, the German Guben to the southeast, the district Sprucke in the south and to the municipality Schenkendöbern belonging districts Schenkendöbern and Wilschwitz the west and Grano in the northwest.

South of Reichenbach, the federal highway 320 runs from Lübben to the Polish border, which forms the border between Reichenbach and Sprucke. The Schwarze Fließ flows between Reichenbach and the core town of Guben .

history

The village of Reichenbach was first mentioned in 1441 with its current spelling. The place name is a transfer of the name of the village of Langenreichenbach in the Saxon district of North Saxony . The name of Reichenbach refers to the location on a water-rich stream.

According to the topographical-statistical overview of the administrative district of Frankfurt ad O. from 1844, there were 20 residential buildings in Reichenbach that year, the place then had 132 inhabitants. From an administrative point of view, Reichenbach belonged to the city of Guben and was also parish off to Guben. In 1867 Reichenbach had 176 inhabitants in 21 residential buildings. The residents visited the Guben monastery church for church services .

At the Congress of Vienna in 1815, after the defeat of the Kingdom of Saxony, it was decided to assign territories to the Kingdom of Prussia , which also affected Reichenbach. After that, the community was in the district of Guben in the administrative district of Frankfurt in the province of Brandenburg . Monuments

The Catholic Church of Mary, Mother of Christendom, is located in Reichenbach . It was built between 1967 and 1971 as a massive plastered building with a gable roof based on a design by the architect Egon Körner . The building was consecrated on October 17, 1971. The church is listed as an architectural monument in the list of monuments of the state of Brandenburg .
