history

The former manor Wilschwitz was first mentioned in 1347 as "Wilkewitz". In 1449 the village was mentioned as "Wilczicz". The place name comes from the Sorbian language and means "place where people of a man named Wilk or Wiltschek live". Another possibility for the origin of the name is a transfer of the name from Wildschütz in the district of North Saxony , whose name means "settlement where there are wolves".

Wilschwitz has always been in the Kingdom of Prussia , between 1816 and 1945 the place was part of the Frankfurt administrative district in the Neumark sub-province . Within the administrative district, the rural community was administered by the administrative district of Schenkendöbern . On January 1, 1926, Wilschwitz was incorporated into Schenkendöbern .

On July 25, 1952, Wilschwitz was assigned to the newly formed Guben district in the Cottbus district . After the reunification , the village was initially in the district of Guben and was assigned to the district of Spree-Neisse with the Brandenburg district reform of December 6, 1993 . On December 31, 1998, Wilschwitz was attached to the newly formed community of Lutzketal as part of Schenkendöbern . On October 26, 2003 this community was dissolved again and Wilschwitz came back to the community of Schenkendöbern. On October 14, 2010 Wilschwitz was upgraded from a residential area to an inhabited part of the community.

Wilschwitz is part of the parish Grano . This belongs to the parish Guben, which has been subordinate to the dean's office Cottbus-Neuzelle since September 1st, 2004 and belongs to the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia .
