René Stauß (born September 17, 1987 in Benzingen , Baden-Württemberg ) is a former German athlete . He competed in the decathlon , indoor heptathlon and high jump .

career path

René Stauß completed his Abitur in 2007 at the Hohenzollern High School in Sigmaringen and later completed a three-month internship at the Württemberg Athletics Association (WLV) . In 2008 he obtained his C-Trainer license and began studying in October. At the beginning of 2012, Stauß accepted a fifty percent position as head coach at LAV Tübingen . In autumn 2014 he submitted his master's thesis to the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen in the subject of sports science with a sports management profile and has been an education officer at the WLV since September . There he is also the deputy managing director and has been active as an active spokesman in the presidium in previous years .

Athletic career

René Stauß came to athletics around 1993 through his primary school teacher. Before he turned to the all- around competition , he was very successful in the high jump (including as national champion) and a beacon of hope for young high jumpers.

In 2006 Stauß became German indoor champion in the high jump among the youth . In 2008 he won the championship title of 2.14 m at the South German Junior Championships in Ludwigshafen . He finished second at the South German men's championships and, to top it off, Stauß won the German junior runner-up in Recklinghausen in the same year . However, he had repeated problems with the spring foot, which also brought the change to the decathlon with it.

In the German all- around championships , he soon came in front. In 2014 he became German champion in the all-around competition. In 2015 he took 3rd place at the Universiade in Gwangju . In 2016 Stauß fulfilled the 2nd part of the standard for participation in the European Championships in Amsterdam at the all-around meeting in Marburg and was later also nominated. There, however, he only finished 17th, also because he did not make a valid attempt in the pole vault.

Stauß achieved his personal best in the decathlon of 8009 points at the Thorpe Cup 2017 in Düsseldorf.

With the 2017 season, Stauß ended his sporting career in order to be able to dedicate himself professionally to his tasks at the Württemberg Athletics Association (WLV).

Club affiliations

Stauß starts for SG Schorndorf in 1846 . Before that he was with LAV Tübingen until 2015 , to which he switched from VfL Sindelfingen in 2011/12 . From 2002 to 2007 Stauß was with PSG Sigmaringen, from where he joined the Stuttgarter Kickers at the end of 2007 and after a year moved to VfL Sindelfingen. Stauß also wore the VfL Winterlingen jersey .
