Richard Köhler (economist)

Richard Köhler (born December 30, 1936 in Schweinfurt ) is a German economist .

Career

After high school and an apprenticeship as a banker , Richard Köhler studied business administration at the Universities of Würzburg and Mannheim . He received his doctorate in 1965 in Mannheim, was a research assistant at the Department of Curt Sand and worked during the years 1963-1971 part-time as a freelancer in an auditing practice . In 1973 he obtained his habilitation in business administration from the University of Mannheim. Between 1973 and 1979, Köhler was Professor of Business Administration and Marketing and Director of the Institute for Economics at RWTH Aachen University . In 1978/79 he was dean of the Philosophical Faculty in Aachen . In addition to calls from Aachen and Cologne , he received calls from the Universities of Bochum , Freiburg and Innsbruck .

Richard Köhler has been a member of the University of Cologne since 1979 . He was director of the seminar for general business administration, market research and marketing as well as a founding member of the institute for exhibition industry and distribution research. In 1989 he was visiting professor at Keiō University in Tokyo , and in 1994 lecturer in marketing accounting at the Free University of Berlin . In 2000 he was visiting professor at Meiji University and Keio University (both Tokyo) and in 2000 and 2004 at St. Kliment Ochridski University in Sofia , Bulgaria . Between 1995 and 1997 Köhler was dean of the economics and social sciences faculty at the University of Cologne. At the end of February 2002 he retired . He was the founding president of KölnAlumni eV , the alumni network of the University of Cologne, of which he was chairman of the board from 2003 to 2005 inclusive. Since 2018 Köhler has been a member of the "Honor Alumni" group at the University of Cologne.

Act

Richard Köhler was and is active in various associations, commissions, scientific advisory boards and in various projects. Köhler worked from 1969 to 1972 as a project manager in the DFG Collaborative Research Center “ Social and Economic Psychological Decision Research” at the University of Mannheim , from 1975 to 1982 and from 1986 to 1991 as a project manager in the DFG priority programs “ Empirical Decision Theory ” and “ Theory of Innovation in companies ". From 1981 to 1984 he was a member of the board of the Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration (VHB), in the last two years as deputy chairman. He was made an honorary member of the VHB in 2012. In 2015 Köhler was one of the founding members of the VHB Board of Friends eV He was a board member of the Schmalenbach Society for Business Administration from 1983 to 2013. In 1977 he was one of the founders of the Marketing Club Aachen eV, of which he is an honorary member today (2012 he also became an honorary member of the Marketing Club Cologne / Bonn ). In 1983 he was elected a full academic member of the Accademia Italiana di Economia Aziendale , Bologna . From 1985 to 2009 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Organizational Forum Economic Congress (OFW) . He has been a member of the Honorary Board of Trustees since 2010. Since 1999 Köhler has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the Istituto di Economia d 'Impresa at the Università degli Studi di Milano . In 2002 he was made an honorary member of CONNE (Cologne Nippon Network). From 1990 to 2002 he was an active member of the CEMS Interfaculty Group on Marketing ( Community of European Management Schools ). In 1999 he was appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute for Market-Oriented Management (IMU) at the University of Mannheim, and from 2003 to 2012 he was a member of the IMU partner group.

From 1992 to 2006, Köhler was chairman of the jury for the Brand Association Award (jury member from 1980 to 2016), from 1993 to 2016 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Society for Research into Brands (of which he became an honorary member in 2011). From 1996 to 2001 he was the first speaker of the working group “ Promotion of Young Talent ” in the Association of University Teachers for Business Administration. V. In 2005 he was appointed by the board of this association as a member of the working group " Ethics of Scientific Work " (until 2015). In 2013, Köhler became Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Bonn Academy (now the Zurich Insurance Group ), of which he was a member from 1992 to 2017. Köhler was the founding editor of the magazine Die Betriebswirtschaft (DBW), where he was an active editor from 1977 to 2006 . From 1997 to 2007 he was also on the editorial board of the magazine sales economy. Together with Hermann Diller he publishes the Kohlhammer Edition Marketing (from 1981 to 2002 with Heribert Meffert).

Honors

On 26 January 2005 Kohler received from the Economics Faculty of the Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt the honorary doctorate . He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Potsdam (Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences) on July 3, 2008. On October 30 of the same year he received the Viktor Mataja Medal at the Vienna University of Economics and Business , the highest scientific award of the Austrian Society for Advertising Science. On January 25, 2011, he was awarded the University Medal “in recognition of his services” to the University of Cologne .
