Rick Heinrichs

Richard "Rick" Heinrichs is an American art director and production designer who won an Oscar for best production design as well as several other film awards and was best known for his regular collaboration with film director Tim Burton .

Life

After attending school, Heinrichs studied at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia and then began working at The Walt Disney Company , where he met Tim Burton, whose regular employee he later became.

He began his career as art director and production designer in the Hollywood film industry in 1980 with the film Scream of the Lost and has been involved in the production of 25 films to date.

Heinrichs had his greatest success so far with the horror fairy tale Sleepy Hollow (1999) by Tim Burton with Johnny Depp , Christina Ricci and Miranda Richardson : for this he and Peter Young won the Oscar for best production design at the 2000 Academy Awards . He also won the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) for best production design for this film , and the Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild (ADG) with his staff , with Ken Court , John Dexter , Andy Nicholson and Leslie Tomkins the Golden Satellite Award for Best Art Direction, the LAFCA Award for Best Production Design from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and the Sierra Award for Best Production Design from the Las Vegas Film Critics Society .

2005 he received and Cheryl Carasik an Oscar nomination for Best Production Design, specifically for Lemony Snicket - Mysterious events (2004) by Brad Silberling with Jim Carrey , Meryl Streep and Jew Law in the lead roles . In addition, he and his staff were nominated for this film in 2005 for the ADG Excellence in Production Design Award .

He and Cheryl Carasik were at the 2007 Academy Awards for Best Production Design and at the 2007 British Academy Film Awards for the BAFTA Film Award for Best Production Design in Pirates of the Caribbean 2 (2006) by Gore Verbinski with Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley nominated. He and his staff also received a nomination for the ADG Excellence in Production Design Award .

He and his staff received another nomination for an ADG Excellence in Production Design Award in 2008 for Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End (2007) by Gore Verbinski with Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Tom Hollander .

In 2011, he won the Saturn Award for Best Production Design in Wolfman (2010) by Joe Johnston, starring Benicio del Toro , Anthony Hopkins and Simon Merrells .

In 2012 Heinrichs is nominated for another ADG Excellence in Production Design Award , namely for Captain America - The First Avenger (2011) by Joe Johnston with Chris Evans , Hugo Weaving and Hayley Atwell .

He is currently working with Tim Burton on the film adaptation of the mystical horror drama Dark Shadows and on the comedy-horror animation Frankenweenie , which is based on Burton 's short film of the same name from 1984.
