Richard Marciano "Ricky" Hickman Jr. (Born September 1, 1985 in Winston-Salem , North Carolina ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Hickman began a career as a professional basketball player in Europe, where he first played in Romania , at Gießen 46ers in Germany , Finland and Italy . In 2013, Hickman took on Georgian citizenship and took part in the 2013 European Championship finals for his new adopted home with their national team, in which, however, they were eliminated in the first group stage after five games. With Maccabi, Hickman won a triple crown from national double and ULEB Euroleague 2013/14 in the 2013/14 season . He then moved to the Turkish champion Fenerbahçe from Istanbul. After a season at Olimpia Milan , Hickman signed a two-year contract with the German series champion and EuroLeague participant - from the 2018/2019 season onwards ChampionsLeague participant - Brose Bamberg . The contract was not renewed for the 2019/2020 season.

Career

After graduating from high school in Kernersville , where he went to school together with the later Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) player Chris Oliver , Hickman moved in 2003 to study at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the same US state where he played for the college team Spartans in the Southern Conference of the NCAA . His teammates temporarily included the later BBL players Ronald Burrell and Kyle Hines . Along with these players, Hickman is among the top ten Spartans players in the top ten Spartans' career best categories, and he's the Spartan's all-time best ball thief . Even so, the Spartans could not qualify for any NCAA final tournaments during Hickman's active time.

In 2007, Hickman began a professional career in Europe, where he first auditioned for the Hungarian club from Pécs . He then signed a contract with the Romanian club from Otopeni in November 2007 , where he played eleven games. In the following season he was initially without a contract at the beginning of the season and kept fit with his school friend Chris Oliver in Göttingen with the reserve team of BG 74 Göttingen in the regional league before he signed a trial contract with the German first division club Gießen 46ers on the recommendation of his former coach Keith Gatlin the basketball league 2008/09 got. Hickman's contract was extended until the end of the season, but the Giessen team ended the season as penultimate in a relegation zone. While the Giesseners achieved relegation by purchasing a wild card , Hickman did not get a new contract.

For the season 2009/10 Hickman moved together with Corey Rouse in the Finnish Korisliiga to Namika from Lahti . Although Hickman was the top scorer in the Finnish league, the team only achieved ninth place out of twelve clubs with an almost even season record. Then, at the end of April 2010, Hickman was committed to the promotion play-offs in the second Italian league LegADue from the club from Casale Monferrato . In the semi-final series, however, they lost the last two games, having previously been in the lead with two wins after three games, against the later play-off winners and promoted Dinamo Basket Sassari . In the following season, Hickman won together with, among others, Oluoma Nnamaka and Folarin Campbell as the main round first and the play-offs for promotion to the top division. As " Most Valuable Player " (MVP) of the Legadue 2010/11 but changed Hickman from newly promoted to the new league rivals from Pesaro in the Lega Basket Serie A . In the play-offs for the 2012 championship, after two opening defeats in the first round, the previous runner-up Bennet Cantù could be held down before they were eliminated in the semi-final series against EA7 Armani Milan .

For the 2012/13 season, Hickman then signed a contract with the Israeli series champion Maccabi from Tel Aviv , with whom he also competed in the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 . Maccabi was eliminated in the second group stage of the 16 best teams and surprisingly lost the national championship final against Maccabi Haifa as defending champions . Even with the Georgian national team, things did not go as desired for Hickman and after only one victory in five group games they were eliminated early in the 2013 European Championship finals . The 2013/14 season, however, went much better for Hickman. He won the ULEB Euroleague with Maccabi with a 96-88 win in the final against Real Madrid . After defending the title in the national cup competition, at the end of the season against defending champion Maccabi Haifa, they also won the title in the national championship back and won a triple crown . He then moved to the Turkish champion Fenerbahçe Ülker from Istanbul .

In the summer of 2017, Hickman signed a 2-year contract with German champions Brose Bamberg .
