history
A few kilometers northeast of today's town are the remains of the first settlement of Pocahontas County by whites with Old Rolfe . The judicial and administrative building was also located here until it was moved to the center of the county. The name Rolfe goes back to John Rolfe , who married the chief's daughter Pocahontas in Virginia in 1614 .
In 1881, a few kilometers south, at the junction of two railway lines, today's place was created. Gradually, after the judicial and administrative center was relocated, the settlement shifted in the direction of the newly created railway settlement. In 1884 the settlement was incorporated as an independent municipality.
