Rose Mary Almanza Blanco (born July 13, 1992 in Camagüey ) is a Cuban track and field athlete who competes in the middle -distance run and specializes in the 800-meter distance .

Athletic career

Rose Mary Almanza gained her first international experience at the ALBA Games in Havana 2009, where she took fourth place over 1500 meters. At the youth world championships in Bressanone she just missed a medal as fourth over 800 meters. At the Pan American Junior Games in Port of Spain , she won over 800 meters ahead of the American Chanelle Price . In 2010 she won the silver medal over 800 meters at the Ibero-American Championships in San Fernando . At the Junior World Championships in Moncton , she also finished fourth. At the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayagüez , Puerto Rico , she won silver over 800 meters and also qualified for the Pan American Games in Guadalajara . There she just missed a medal in fourth place.

In 2012, she won silver over 800 meters at the Ibero-American Championships in Barquisimeto and with the Cuban 4 x 400 meter relay. She also qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in London , which reached the semi-finals . In 2013 she won bronze at the Ibero-American Championships in Morelia and reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Moscow . In 2014 she won the gold medal at the Pan American Sports Festival in Mexico City and at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Xalapa .

In 2015 she took part in the World Championships in Beijing , where she again reached the semifinals . In 2016 she took part in the World Indoor Championships for the first time in Portland , but was eliminated in the first round, as well as at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . In 2017 she qualified for the World Championships in London , where she reached the semi-finals . A few weeks later she took part in the student world games in Taipei and won the gold medal over 800 meters there. At the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019 , she competed in three disciplines. After two fourth places in the previous editions, she won the silver medal over 800 meters in 2: 01.64 minutes, over 1500 meters she was seventh in the final and fourth with the 4 x 400 meter relay in Cuba.

So far she has been the Cuban champion ten times over 800 and 1500 meters.
