Rourke Chartier (born April 3, 1996 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League until July 2019 and since April 2016 for their farm team , the San Jose Barracuda , played in the American Hockey League on the position of the center .

Career

Chartier initially spent his junior years between 2010 and 2011 with Saskatoon Contacts in the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League , after playing for other junior teams in his hometown in previous years. With the beginning of the 2012/13 season , the striker moved to the Western Hockey League , where he played for the Kelowna Rockets for the following four seasons . They had already selected him in 2011 in the WHL Bantam Draft . During his first three years in the league, Chartier increased continuously from 30 points scorer in his rookie year over 58 to finally 82 points. The attacker also shone with his fair style of play, which brought him the Brad Hornung Trophy at the end of the 2014/15 season . In addition, he prevailed within the entire Canadian Hockey League in the election for CHL Sportsman of the Year against Dylan Strome and Kyle Farrell , who had received equivalent awards in the Ontario Hockey League and Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . The game year was crowned by winning the Ed Chynoweth Cup , the championship trophy of the WHL, and the associated participation in the Memorial Cup . During the season he was awarded a professional contract by the San Jose Sharks from the National Hockey League , who selected him in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in 149th place. Still, Chartier stayed in the junior division for another year. Due to injuries, he completed only 42 games during the season. At the end of the season he finally made his professional debut when he played in a playoff game for San Jose's farm team , the San Jose Barracuda , in the American Hockey League .

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season , the Canadian was firmly in the Barracuda's AHL squad and completed 67 games over the course of the season, in which he scored 35 points. In the 2017/18 game year , it took until November before Chartier was able to intervene again after suffering a concussion in the 2017 playoffs . This was followed by another shortly after his comeback, which did not let him play another game until February 2018. In the end, he collected 21 points in just 28 missions. Free of injuries, he managed to get a place in the NHL squad of the San Jose Sharks at the beginning of the 2018/19 season , where he made his debut shortly after the start of the season. At the end of this season, his expiring contract in San Jose was not extended, so he has been looking for a new employer ever since.
