Rumford Medal
The Rumford Medal (English Rumford Medal ) is a scientific award given by the British Royal Society . It was donated by Count Rumford in 1796 and is awarded every two years (in even years) to scientists working in Europe for an excellent discovery about the thermal or optical properties of matter . The prize consists of a gold-plated silver medal with a relief portrait of the founder and is endowed with prize money of 1000 pounds sterling .
The Rumford Medal should not be confused with the Rumford Prize of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
