The Rur-Eifel-Volkslauf Cup is an annual running cup series that has been held since 1995 in the Aachen city region , in the districts of Düren and Heinsberg as well as in East Belgium and the Netherlands . With over 18,000 participants in total and over 200 runners starting at ten or more individual events, the Rur-Eifel-Volkslauf Cup is one of the larger popular sports events in the region and one of the oldest of its kind in Germany. The Rur-Eifel-Volkslauf Cup is organized by Sport Lövenich from Düren and is sponsored by numerous private individuals and companies.

Beginners and ambitious athletes from the age group W / M U10 can take part in the more than 30 events, depending on the individual tender in the categories of fun run , walking , Nordic walking and hiking. All individual events of the Rur-Eifel-Volkslauf Cup are officially registered with the North Rhine Athletics Association (LVN) and the provisions of the German Athletics Regulations (DLO) of the German Athletics Association as well as the special cup rules apply.

history

At the height of the popular run in the last third of the 20th century, some of the competitions listed below were already held as individual events in the Aachen city region. In order to create a new competitive stimulus for this and to counteract the risk of declining starter numbers, some of the organizing clubs joined forces with committed individuals and created the Rur-Eifel-Volkslauf Cup in 1995. In the course of the next few years he met with increasing interest and the organizers were able to add new organizers and competitions to the series. At the beginning of the 21st century, the number of organizers was sometimes over 40 and leveled off at 34 to 38 events in the course of the following years. With increasing interest among the participants, more and more wealthy and mostly local sponsors joined in, who were committed to this running series for one or more years. In the meantime, the number of participants in the Cup runs decreased slightly, but the decline was stopped again from the mid-2010s.

In addition, the running series developed a tourist component, as the majority of the participants, some of them with the whole family and / or supervisors, travel to the individual events and get to know both the geographical surroundings and the hospitality of the venue. So it came about that, regardless of the official regulations, the popularity of an event is rated by the participants, whereby the orientation itself as well as the route and the entire environment play a role. In the last few years, for example, the light run by Komet Steckenborn has been rated as the most beautiful run in the series several times.

Regulations

General

A series ranking for the Rur-Eifel-Volkslauf Cup takes place from the tenth run of a participant in ten different cup events. In contrast, seven participations are enough for schoolchildren, youth, walking and Nordic walking participants.

The Rur-Eifel-Volkslauf Cup can be won in six rating classes: in the respective age classes according to the DLO from W / M U10 (but here only the nine and ten year olds), in the overall, kilometer, club and pair rating as well as in in the walking, Nordic walking and hiking categories. Schoolchildren and young people as well as walkers, Nordic walkers and hikers can only be rated if the relevant disciplines are officially advertised as cup ratings; competitions offered subsequently cannot be considered.

Age group rating

According to the list of results of the individual event, 14 results are initially included in the evaluation, whereby the first in an age group is rated with 50 points and each additional place receives one point less. In the case of 15 to 19 races, the participant receives 20 bonus points for each further run and from the 20th participation better scores are taken into account instead of bonus points. For schoolchildren and young people, seven runs plus four bonus runs are scored. The first three of each age group receive non-cash prizes or vouchers, and everyone who has completed at least ten cup runs receives a certificate and a souvenir.

Overall rating

The winner receives 1000 points for each cup run. The gradation of the further placements depends on the participants in the respective run and is calculated using the mathematical formula: "1000 - 1000: number of starters", which means, for example, that with 200 participants each further place receives five points less. Up to 18 runs can be rated; from the 19th run the worst results are deleted. The first to fifth place each receive a material prize or a voucher, the next up to 20th place a certificate.

KM rating

In the KM evaluation, all kilometers that a participant completes in the corresponding cup runs are added up. This also applies to multiple starts (e.g. the 5 and 10 km competitions) at one event. The first three top-placed women and men will be honored with prizes or vouchers, and everyone who has covered at least 250 total kilometers will receive a T-shirt.

Club, team evaluation

For each event, the five best results from members of a club or a team are included in the evaluation, based on the age group points of the individual club participants, who are also only allowed to start for one team. The best club or team in the annual ranking receives the challenge cup and prizes in kind can still be won up to sixth place.

Pair rating

Each year of the event, one runner and one runner can start as a registered "couple" throughout the season and regardless of club membership and age group. If both of them finish a race at the same event, all age group points of the couple will be added up at all events that have taken place and at the end of the season the first three couples will be honored with prizes or vouchers.

Walking, Nordic walking and hikers

Since there are no precise competition rules for this group, only participation in events that are listed in the individual competition for this group counts, regardless of the individual discipline. Those who have successfully participated in at least seven events will receive a certificate and will be invited to the central winners' party of the Rur-Eifel-Volkslauf Cup.
