Saas-Grund (until 31 December 2006 officially Saas Grund ) is a municipality and a civic community of the district Visp and a parish of the deanery Visp in the Swiss canton of Valais . Saas-Grund is the capital of the Saas Valley and, in terms of population, the second largest place in the Saas Valley after Saas-Fee .

It is located on the Saaser Vispa in the heart of the Saas Valley at 1560 meters above sea level . The neighboring communities are Saas-Fee, Saas-Almagell and Saas-Balen .

View from Kreuzboden to the Mischabel and the mountains of Saas-Fee

Saas-Grund has a winter sports and hiking area. Two gondola lifts and several ski lifts reach up to 3,142  m above sea level. M. Height to the fifth highest ski sports area in Switzerland (after Zermatt , Saas-Fee, Verbier and St. Moritz ).

At the Kreuzboden middle station ( 2400  m above sea level ) there is a small lake and a children's area (large playground). From the Hohsaas mountain station ( 3142  m above sea level ) you can see the entire Mischabel chain up to the Monte Rosa massif .

The Triftalp is halfway between Saas-Grund and Kreuzboden .

traffic

The village of Saas-Grund is on the main road 212 Visp – Saas-Fee and can be reached by post bus from Brig and Visp . From Saas-Grund, the main road 212.1 leads to Saas-Almagell and Mattmarksee .
