Saija Tarkki , b. Sirviö , (born December 29, 1982 in Oulu ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Kärpät Oulu in Naisten SM-sarja since 2011 . At the beginning of her career she played in defense , but later switched to the attacking position .
Career
Saija Tarkki started her career at Kärpät Oulu in her hometown. She made her debut for Kärpät at the age of 14 in Finland's top ice hockey league, the Naisten SM-sarja . In the summer of 2010 she married the Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper Tuomas Tarkki and moved with him to MODO Hockey , where he was active for the professional team in the Elitserien and Saija for the women's team in the Riksserien . In 2011 Saija Tarkki returned to Kärpät and won the Finnish championship with her home club in 2012 for the first time in her career .
In 2017 and 2018 she was again Finnish champion with Kärpät. In 2012 she was elected to the league's All-Star Team. In 2007 and 2012 she was named the best defender of the season.
Tarkki studied Information Technology at the University of Oulu.
Since 2018 she has been working as an expert on ice hockey broadcasts for Telia , making her the first female TV ice hockey journalist in Finland.
International
Saija Tarkki belonged from 2001 to the cadres of the Finnish national team and won this in the World Cup 2004 , World Cup 2008 and 2009 the bronze medal. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , she also won the bronze medal. In total, she has played well over 150 internationals for Finland so far.
