Saint-Jean-d'Eyraud is a village and a former French community with 179 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Périgueux (until 2016: Bergerac ) and the canton of Périgord Central (until 2015: Canton of Villamblard ).
The decree of September 25, 2018, with effect from January 1, 2019, incorporated Saint-Jean-d'Eyraud as the Commune déléguée together with the former municipalities of Maurens , Laveyssière and Saint-Julien-de-Crempse to form the Commune nouvelle Eyraud-Crempse -Maurens feast . The administrative headquarters are in Maurens.
The name in the Occitan language is Sent Joan d'Eiraud and is derived from John the Baptist .
The inhabitants are called Saint-Jean-d'Eyrois and Saint-Jean-d'Eyroises .
geography
Saint-Jean-d'Eyraud is located about 35 km southwest of Périgueux and about 12 km north-northwest of Bergerac in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) in the Landais area of the historic province of Périgord .

The coat of arms can be interpreted as follows: Silver water flows from the golden mascaron in the middle. This indicates that the river Eyraud has its source in the local area. The coat of arms in the left ( heraldic right ) upper corner shows a bridge with three arches. It is the coat of arms of the Pontbriand de Montréal family, who had jurisdiction over Saint-Jean-d'Eyraud during the Ancien Régimes .
Population development
After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 530 in the second half of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of Saint-Jean-d'Eyraud decreased to 160 inhabitants with brief recovery periods until the 1980s ceased a brief period of moderate growth that lasted until the beginning of the 19th century. Since then, there has been a slight decline in the population again.
