history

The Eynaud, canals and numerous springs have always determined the life of the place and supplied their watermills over the centuries . In particular, the village hid the Vergt family home, which subsequently came into the possession of the Rivasson family. Laveyssière belonged successively to the castellany of Bergerac, Maurens and Montréal . Laveyssière has been known as a place of pilgrimage especially since the Middle Ages . A sanctuary in the heart of the village still attracts the faithful today, who celebrates the service at a water source, weather permitting. This miraculous spring is located near the church, the origins of which go back to the age of the Celts . The water is said to have healing powers against various diseases, especially rheumatic diseases. It is conceivable that the place of the source saw a Celtic place of worship next to a chapel .
