Samantha Judith Ronson (born August 7, 1977 in London ) is a British DJ and singer-songwriter living in Santa Monica , California .

Life

Samantha Ronson was born in London . Her parents are Ann Dexter-Jones and Laurence Ronson, an entrepreneur. Ronson grew up with her twin sister Charlotte, now known as a fashion designer, and her brother Mark , a successful music producer. She also has five half-siblings. When Ronson was six years old, her parents separated. She moved to New York City with her mother, siblings and Mick Jones , her mother's new boyfriend and guitarist for the rock group Foreigner . Her parents are of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, with ancestors from Austria , Russia and Lithuania . Ronson was raised in Conservative Judaism .

Ronson is a lesbian and has dated actress Lindsay Lohan , among others . After the couple split up, it was revealed that Ronson was unable to face the paparazzi persecution. In 2011 she was spotted frequently with screenwriter Erin Foster, who was five years her junior. However, the relationship was never made public.

Career

Ronsons started her career with a few gigs in nightclubs, through which she made a name for herself and in the following years at major events such as the MTV New Year's Eve Show, the Super Bowl , Pan American Games , Sundance Film Festival , Cannes Film Festival , AMAs and the VMAs hung up. She has also played at private events for celebrities like Stevie Wonder , Jimmy Kimmel , Nicole Richie , Lionel Richie , Jessica Simpson , Ellen DeGeneres , Natalie Portman , Lindsay Lohan and Jay-Z .

In 2009, 2010 and 2014 Ronson designed her own set of sneakers for Supra. In collaboration with The Cobra Snake (Mark Hunter), Ronson also appeared in a 2011 campaign for the cult fashion label Boy London . She was a co-owner of the New York nightclub The Plumm, along with actors Chris Noth and Noel Ashman.

Ronson became the first rock act to be signed to Roc-A-Fella Records . In 2002 it was announced that Duncan Sheik would be co-producing an album for Ronson that was due out in the spring. She released four songs: "Pull My Hair Out", "Fool", "If It's Gonna Rain" and "Built This Way". "Built This Way" starred in Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams . "Pull My Hair Out" appeared on the soundtrack of The Woodsman, starring Kevin Bacon, and Rhymefest's song "Wanted," starring Samantha Ronson, appeared in Half Nelson . Due to the breakup of Roc-A-Fella Records, the album was never released.

In November 2011, Ronson released the album Chasing the Reds on her own label Broken Toy Records . The album features guest stars like Wale on "Summer of Sam", Alex Greenwald from Phantom Planet on "Captain Jack" and Slash on the track "Love Song". The album was produced by former Goudie guitarist Jimmy Messer, with Ronson co-producing. Her brother Mark Ronson produced a track, "Skyscrapers".

In 2016 Ronson, Pete Nappi and Ethan Thompson formed the band Ocean Park Standoff . The members first met in 2014 for a songwriting session. Her debut single "Good News" was released on October 7, 2016 together with the B-side "Photos & Liquor". In 2017 she started her first US tour, her debut EP was released on March 3, 2017 on Hollywood Records .

Private

In May 2007, the American actress Lindsay Lohan had an accident with her Mercedes-Benz in Beverly Hills . Police found cocaine in their car and blogger Perez Hilton posted on his blog that the drugs belonged to Ronson. Two weeks later he started selling "Blame Samantha" t-shirts and called Ronson a "lezbot dj". Ronson hired attorney Martin Garbus to start a character assassination lawsuit against Hilton. Garbus withdrew from the case, and neither he nor Ronson appeared at Hiltons hearing where the judge ordered Hiltons favor and Ronson to pay Hiltons $ 85,000 legal fees. In May, Ronson filed a lawsuit against Garbus in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Among the allegations was that Garbus failed to perform his duties as her attorney because he focused on collecting his fees. In response to Ronson's malpractice lawsuit, he counterclaimed to collect his fees.

On August 1, 2011, Ronson was stopped in Baker, California while driving home from Las Vegas. She was stopped for driving 89 in a 70 speed zone and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol .

In 2007, the media started writing about Ronson and actress Lindsay Lohan. Several newspapers, including The Times and the Los Angeles Times , published articles describing their relationship as romantic. Lohan abstained from commenting on the nature of their relationship, stating that she "wants to keep her private life private". Ronson stated in a July 2010 interview with The Times that she loves Lohan as a person, but the paparazzi were getting too much attention.

In June 2011, when Ronson was photographed with music producer's daughter David Foster and Erin Foster , multiple media outlets reported that Ronson and Foster were a couple. The two have often been photographed together, but Ronson has never commented on the relationship other than to explain that she is not single.
