Sanaa Koubaa-Schretzmair , b. Sanaa Koubaa, (born January 6, 1985 in Langenfeld (Rhineland) ) is a German athlete with Moroccan roots who specializes in obstacle and long-distance running, but also competes in road runs .
career path
Sanaa Koubaa visited the Elbseegrundschule in Hilden and made the Lore-Lorentz-Gymnasium in Dusseldorf her high school with a focus on sport and health. She studied social education with a focus on adventure and experience at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences , and wrote her thesis in 2008 . As a social worker, Koubaa worked for many years at her former elementary school, where she also taught sports. When she discovered when she started her career that she liked working with children, she began studying to be a teacher in Wuppertal, specializing in German, mathematics and sport. This triple burden of teaching in the morning, studying in the afternoon and training in the evening impaired her athletic performance, which in 2010 resulted in the abandonment of studies in favor of sport. The end of 2014 Koubaa went professionally and privately new ways moved to Cologne , joined the club and worked as a substitute teacher in Gummersbach and Kathe Kollwitz - vocational school in Remscheid worked. She is now employed full-time at a vocational school in Gummersbach.
Athletic career
Already in elementary school, Koubaa discovered her weakness for sport and her talent for athletics. Her class teacher at the time and long-time trainer had introduced her to athletics, and since 1994 she had been a successful athlete at LG Hilden .
In her youth, she won the West German Junior Championships over 1500 meters and was runner-up over 2000 meters in German youth championships. During her long sporting career, Koubaa was consistently one of the German top 6 in her discipline.
In the middle of her education studies, around 2006, an American coach offered her a sports scholarship in the USA . In the state of Oklahoma , Koubaa continued her studies and trained in the university's athletics team, but, despite the best conditions and a four-year contract, broke off her personal adventure after ten months because she trained too much, competed too much and over time slowed down.
In 2012 Koubaa had her greatest successes to date, she became German runner-up in the 3000 meter obstacle course and reached the final at the European Championships in Helsinki . Participation in the Olympic Games in London was denied her because she did not meet the standard time. She missed this by 4 seconds in a run-up and had to pay tribute to the slow pace of the favorites in the final. Then followed two years of bad luck with injuries and illnesses.
In 2014, Koubaa reported back over 3000 meters with a 4th place at the German Championships .
In 2016, as in 2015, a third place at the German Championships followed . Koubaa did not take part in the European Championships in Amsterdam , she had missed the norm by seven hundredths of a second, and Jana Sussmann got the starting place. When she met the standards for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she made it exciting again. Just two days before the deadline for compliance with standards managed Koubaa the Flanders Cup in Belgium Kortrijk the default and stayed with 9: 38.11 minutes for the first time in her career under 9:40 minutes, almost seven seconds under the Olympic standard and almost four seconds under her four year old best. With this, Koubaa had moved up to second place in the year's best list and was nominated for participation in Rio de Janeiro. This time Jana Sussmann was left behind, as she now took fourth place. In Rio, Koubaa took 27th place in the 3000 meter obstacle course with another personal best of 9: 35.15 min.
In 2017, Koubaa-Schretzmair had to undergo a prophylactic operation and skip the summer season.
