history

The castle chair

West of the Mittelaifermühle rises up in the Naifertal, near St. Helena, a steep rocky reef that bears the name "Burgstuhl". This field name has sparked speculation about the location of a castle several times in the past. So far, however, neither traces of construction nor relevant finds have been observed. A scientific excavation has not yet taken place.

The first mention of Saint Helena was in 1421 in connection with an early measurement foundation. The original name is Naifer or Neuffer . Together with the neighboring village of Großengsee , Sankt Helena came into the possession of the Tucher family in 1574 . The church for the first time in 1529 called had until the introduction of Calvinism in Buehl the function of the daughter church held. There is the grave of Christof Wilhelm Friedrich Karl Freiherr Tucher von Simmelsdorf.

Due to the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century , Sankt Helena became part of the independent rural community of Großengsee with the second municipal edict . In the course of the communal territorial reform carried out in Bavaria in the 1970s , it was incorporated into the municipality of Simmelsdorf in 1977. In 2016 Sankt Helena had 51 inhabitants.
