Winterstein is one of 24 districts in the Central Franconian community of Simmelsdorf .

geography

The village is located about four kilometers north of Simmelsdorf on the western slope of the 604 meter high Vogelsberg hill.

history

The former manor was first mentioned in 1326. The castle complex above the village has been owned by the Tucher family since they acquired it in 1662 from Messrs. Lochner von Hüttenbach. Before it was owned by a noble family Winterstein . Only a few remains of the castle are preserved today, such as the gatehouse, parts of a corner tower and the outer walls of the palace.
