Satna ( Hindi : सतना , Satnā ) is a city with a population of around 280,000 in the north Indian state of Madhya Pradesh . It is the administrative seat of the Satna District .
Location and traffic
Several state and national highways run through Satna. The nearest major airport is in Khajuraho , about 120 km northwest of Satna and can be reached via the road to Chhatarpur via Nagod and Panna ; Satna itself only has a small airfield for sports machines. Satna has a train station on the busy route that connects Mumbai and Haora .

About 92% of the population are Hindus , only about 6% are Muslims ; the remaining 2% are made up of religious minorities such as Sikhs , Jains , Buddhists and Christians. As is customary in northern India, the male proportion of the population exceeds the female population by a good 10%.
economy
Satna is the artisanal and mercantile center of a large number of exclusively agricultural-oriented villages in the area. Satna is also a center of the Indian building materials industry; There is a large cement plant at the site.
education
The closest universities are Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramoday University in Chitrakut and Awadhesh Pratap Singh University in Rewa , which also operates a campus in Satna. In the city itself there is the seminary of St. Ephrem of the Syro-Malabar diocese of Satna .
Worth seeing
Major attractions in the area include the nearby towns of Maihar , Chitrakut, Rewa and the temples of Khajuraho, some 100 km away . The Tulsi Museum in Ramvam is about 16 km from Satna and exhibits unique ancient sculptures from this area. The Shiva temple in Birsinghpur is also a historical building. About 25 km southeast of Nagod is the beautiful temple of Nachna . The Gupta Temple of Bhumara and the archaeological site of the former stupa of Bharhut are each about 25 km southwest and southeast of the city.
