The 11th European individual chess championship for women and men was held from March 5th to 19th, 2010 in the Croatian city ​​of Rijeka .

408 men and 158 women took part in the competitions, which were held in eleven rounds in the Swiss system . The organizers were the European Chess Union and the Rijekas Chess Club.

The men's tournament was won by the then 19-year-old Russian grandmaster Jan Nepomnjaschtschi . From eleven games he got 9.0 points and was thus European champion ahead of Baadur Dschobawa from Georgia, who scored 8.5 points.

In the women’s category, Pia Cramling from Sweden won ahead of Viktorija Čmilytė and Monika Soćko .
