Schematic war organization of the Wehrmacht on June 6, 1944

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The schematic war structure of the Wehrmacht on June 6, 1944 shows the formation of the army , air force and navy of the Wehrmacht in Western Europe at the beginning of the Allied landings in France . The army was divided into two army groups. The Luftwaffe provided an air fleet that was independent, but was supposed to work closely with the relevant army units. The infantry divisions were generally given the addition “ down to earth ”, that is, they were equipped with fewer horses and vehicles than a normal infantry division. The field divisions (L) were former Luftwaffe field divisions . Reserve divisions belonged to the reserve army and were mainly responsible for training recruits.
