The Schlootkuhlen nature reserve is located in the city of Kempen in the Viersen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The approximately 62.13 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1989 , extends northwest of the core city of Kempen. The A 40 runs not far to the north and the L 362 state road to the east. In the western part, the L 361 crosses the area, and the Niers flows to the west .
