The Rintger Bruch nature reserve is located in the city of Viersen in the Viersen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The approximately 58.53 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1990 , extends east of the core town of Viersen. The state road L 29 runs north of the area and the Niers flows to the east .
The protection takes place
- for the maintenance and restoration of near-natural forest areas, in particular the alder quarry on waterlogged locations
- for the preservation of habitats for protected aquatic plants , plants of the reed beds , the quarry forest , the moor and the habitats especially of birds, especially of water birds and cave breeders , of bats , amphibians , reptiles , butterflies and dragonflies
- to preserve the Rintger Bruch as a relic of the formerly large, swampy Niers lowlands, which is important in terms of vegetation and regional history
