The Salbruch nature reserve is located in the area of ​​the towns of Tönisvorst , Viersen and Willich in the Viersen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The approximately 327.35 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1990 , extends northeast of the core town of Viersen. The state road L 39 and the A 61 run to the west, the L 29 runs to the south. The Niers flows through the area from north-west to south-east.

The protection takes place

  • for the preservation of communities or habitats of certain wild plant and animal species

  • because of the rarity, special character or outstanding beauty of the surface
  • for the preservation and development of the Niers valley area as a broad, flat, lowland area including the terrace edges and the preservation of the large grassland areas with high natural potential , which are crossed by ditches and the diked Niers
