The Tantelbruch nature reserve is located in the area of ​​the municipalities of Brüggen , Niederkrüchten and Schwalmtal in the Viersen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The approximately 136.20 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1982 , extends east of the core town of Brüggen along the Schwalm . Federal road 221 runs to the west and state road  373 to the north . State road 372 runs along the south-eastern edge of the area.

The nature reserve is part of the EU bird sanctuary " Schwalm-Nette-Platte with Grenzwald and Meinweg ".
