Schott von Schottenstein
Schott von Schottenstein (also the Scots ) is the name of an old Franconian noble family .
history
The progenitor of the family was probably Heinrich Schott, who was mentioned in 1260. He was the first to bear this name. Heinrich was in feudal relationship with the Franconian Counts of Castell (same coat of arms with different crest).
The brothers Heinrich, Ludwig and Engelhard Schott renounced in 1267 under their current sovereign, the Count of Henneberg , the tithe in Wolfsdorf (today a district of the city of Bad Staffelstein ) and Wallenstedt (today a district of the city of Lichtenfels ) in favor of the Count of Oettingen . Count Ludwig V. von Oettingen used the property rights of these tithe in an undated deed (around 1278) for the foundation of an anniversary in the Langheim monastery for his deceased brother Konrad. In 1303, Ludwig Schott sold three goods in Watzendorf (today part of the community of Großheirath ) to the Langheim monastery in a certificate given to Coburg .
Since the end of the 14th century, the Schott had important fiefdoms from the Fulda Abbey . Because of one of their headquarters, to which they had given the name Schottenstein (today part of the municipality of Itzgrund ), they were accepted into the imperial knighthood of the canton of Baunach and since then have carried the name Schott von Schottenstein. In Schottenstein there were (or are) several knight seats of those von Schott:
